I have to pick just one? Definitely not city. Probably mountains. With some trees. Lucky for me I live by mountains with lots of forest all over them.

Oooh it's a toss up between seascapes and forest. There is something magical in untouched beauty far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's simple and pure.

I would say mountains too as they are part of natures beauty, but I am surrounded by them every day and, frankly, I need a change of scenery.

I love the mountains. We have an incredible view of the Superstition Mountains right from our front door. They are, IMO, the most beautiful mountains in the whole Phoenix area. They're what I think of every time I hear 'purple mountain's majesty'. Sadly, our view will soon be gone, thanks to progress and land development. :(

Mountains, hands down. Something about the openness. sigh. Love the mountains.

How about mountains next to a seascape?

I miss Italy *sniff*

Seascapes definitely. There isn't anything more relaxing than sitting there watching the ocean waves roll in and out, the sounds of the water, the wind and the sunsets. My goal someday is to own that cliff side house so I can wake up to that every day.

I like the sea just for what you are talking about, Michelle. I like the repetition of the waves. At first it seems simple, just the back and forth, but then you understand that it's actually the complex relationship between the earth and the moon, and that the pattern is far more complicated with the tides, but all still predictable. It amazes me.

Mountains! Mountains, hidden valleys, a lake or two, and more mountains! Can you tell I love where I live? In fact, of all the mountain ranges of the world I've seen, the only one I like close to the home peaks are the Alps. Something about those peaks trying to reach the very heavens is magical.

Well, there is another tie for first place: The Internet. Or as I like to call it: E-scape. ;->

The sea. I love to plop my chair in the surf and stare at the ocean. I get my best ideas from staring at the waves.

Deep forest... especially jungle-style forest, where it's dense but the foliage is varied... with birds overhead chirping away, singing their unique songs and flitting from branch to branch so quickly it's nearly impossible to catch a glimpse... forests fill me with wonder, awe, and a bit of fear. You never know what you'll find inside.

Seascape. I'm from the Keys and to me there is no greater beauty. Great question because they all have beauty about them. Even the city.

Ocean. Ocean and water is one of my favorite landscapes. (Although picking one is tough!) I think that expanse of water reminds me of a greater perspective. I'm intoxicated by it.

I've spent the last 10 years of my life in a huge city, but I grew up in a foresty area. What I've found is that I really miss that quiet area and the beautiful I often saw when hiking in the woods. I pick a forest as my fav place, hands down.

tossup between beach and mountain. Loveem both!

I love them all, except for maybe the city. I like city landscapes taken at night, I guess, but I'm more into mountains and forest and seascapes. Too hard to choose ...

Nothing quite as lovely as the beach. Going read your LL post now.

I had to sit here a long time and think about this. I like forests and ocean and desert and sunsets, etc, but I couldn't say any of them are my "favorite."

Starscapes! Do those count? Preferably with some kind of pretty gas cloud or nebula thrown in.

If starscapes don't count (since they're a little short on any kind of land in the foreground), I guess I'd have to go with waterfalls.

Thanks for your responses, everybody! My favorite landscape is the ocean. But like Mariah, says, mountains with a seascape has got to be the best for me! But after spending an amazing weekend in the desert area, I'm loving the desert, too. This earth is beautiful, isn't it?

Oh, the earth is a wondrous creation indeed. Sometimes I wonder if our most fantastic outlandish writing isn't really a subconscious desire to imitate a piece of majesty we once glimpsed in nature.

And look at that! You replied to all of our comments quickly. And you know what? I feel as personally acknowledged as when you write an individual note. Now that's writing talent!

Alicia: Yes, it's tempting to do a bulk comment reply all the time, haha!
